Q         What are the basic qualifications for becoming a Bail Bondsman or a Surety Recovery Agent?

A         The Applicant must be 21 years of age, have completed High School or have an equivalent G.E.D, and cannot have any felony convictions.

 

Q         If I meet the basic qualifications what must I do to become a Bail Bondsman?

A         You must complete an approved Initial Basic Training class of at least 24 hours, successfully pass a written examination, and submit your application                 and application fee to the Missouri Department of Insurance.  In addition you will need to have a General Bail Bond Agent who will sponsor your                     application and agree to place your license under his.

 

Q         If I meet the basic qualifications what must I do to become a Surety Recovery Agent?

A         You must complete an approved Initial Basic Training class of at least 24 hours, successfully pass a written examination, and submit your application,                 application fee and a photo copy front and back of a picture ID such as your Missouri Drivers license.  Unlike a bail bond license, you will not need a             General Bail Bond Agent to sponsor your application and agree to employ you.

 

Q         Where can I register for and take the approved  24 hour Initial Basic Training course for Bail Bondsmen and Surety Recovery Agents?

Q         Once I have completed the Initial Basic Training course how do I register for the written examination?

A         NEW PROVIDER !   At the present time Pearson Education Inc.  holds the contract with the State of Missouri for administering the Bail Bond and                 Surety Recovery written exams.  You can contact Pearson at 866.274.4740 or online at   http://www.pearsonvue.com 

Q         Where can I get a study guide  for the Bail Bond or Surety Recovery Tests

A          You can download a Candidate Handbook at http://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/122600.pdf  and a Test Outline at
              http://www.asisvcs.com/publications/pdf/122601.pdf   You will not need to know everything in each of these publications just the sections
              pertaining to bail and surety recovery.  

Q         Where can I obtain the approved application form to submit to the Missouri Department of Insurance to apply for my license?

A         You can obtain the application form from the Missouri Department of Insurance by mail or you can go online and download the application from the                 Missouri Department of Insurance web site.  www.insurance.mo.gov

 

Q         What are the costs involved in becoming licensed as a Bail Bondsman or Surety Recovery Agent?

A         The cost of the Initial Basic Training course is $200.00,  the written exam is $41.00, fingerprint and background check  $50.25 to $59.00 and the                     application fee is $150.00.

Q        What is the cost of the fingerprint / background check and who do I contact?

A        The cost variesaccording to your location, I paid $50.25 but others have paid as much as $59.00.  The company that does the fingerprinting is IBT and            you can register online at  www.ibtfingerprint.com  or you can call   toll free 866-522-7067

 

 

Q         How long does it take to receive my license once I have submitted my application?

A         Typically, it takes from 10 days to three weeks to receive your license after the Missouri Department of Insurance has received your application.
